06 May How to verify the mechanical integrity of a load cell
Load cells have the same behaviour of a spring. Their internal sensor allows to measure the deformation of the material, when a load is applied. However, when the applied load is too high, it is possible a deformation of the material, which is not able to come back to its original position.
A simple and fast method to test the integrity of a load cell is to connect a millivoltmeter to a load cell, without any load. Its value should be similar to the one written on the calibration certificate (S2Tech always supplies certificate with measuring systems).
If the value shown by the millivoltmeter is different from the certificate, the load cell is deformed and cannot be used anymore, because it is not able to do a correct measurement.
